National Park Plitvice Lakes

National Park Plitvice Lakes doesn’t require much advertising, as it is added to UNESCO World Heritage register and so widely popular.

The park it is placed northern from Zadar, in Lika region. It is really big and magnificent and it wouldn’t be a mistake to visit it for few days to experience everything it has to offer. In any case, this is a trip you will remember for a lifetime.

If you chose to go for it, what you should bear in mind is that it is always a few degrees colder there then in Zadar. While in the middle of the summer it can come as a good refreshment, for other seasons you should bring an extra jacket with you. Further more, the deeper in season you are, the more crowded it will be, and the entry ticket price is higher.

Check everything including seasonal entry ticket prices on the park’s website:  https://np-plitvicka-jezera.hr/en/

  • NO CAR-NO PROBLEM: RECOMMENDED TOUR: Jadera Booking Agency

The most affordable way to get to Plitvice lakes is by using a bus from the Main bus station in Zadar. The return ticket should be around 30 EUR, and the bus timetable you can find on this link: MainBusStation.

Second affordable and easiest way to get to Plitvice Lakes if you don’t have a car. It is a pickup minibus, like a taxi, that picks you up at the address and takes you to the national park with a stop at the supermarket. The taxi then waits for you for about 5-6 hours for your tour to finish and brings you back home. This agency charges 40€/person, but ask me to fix you up with 30Eur/person(that is the price with removed booking fee) which is approximately the same price as the bus ticket, plus they offer agency discount for the NP tickets. Explore everything on their site: http://jadera-booking-agency.hr/item/plitvice-lakes-excursion/. On this tour you don’t get the guide, but the real truth is, that you don’t want a guide on a tour like this. You want to set you own tempo and enjoy the nature on your own terms. If you plan to check some other tour offers bear in mind that the boat ride is included in the price of the Park anyway.

  • IF BY CAR:

If by car, the best is to turn the google maps and GPS on, and let it drive you. Choosing the old road may be cheaper then the highway, and the drive, when there is no traffic lasts about 1hour 30 minutes. Start as early as you can, even 6AM is not too early, that way you will avoid the crowds and the highest sun. You can also choose to go there in the afternoon to avoid the crowds, plus the entrance fee tends to be smaller in the afternoon hours.
